Men's Lacrosse Hosts Dartmouth in Non-Conference Finale

MEN'S LACROSSE NOTEBOOK
Vermont men's lacrosse (2-4) returns home for a midweek matchup against Dartmouth (2-3). The game begins at 2 p.m. and will be streamed live on ESPN+ from Virtue Field.

WEEKLY AWARDS
For the third straight week, the Catamounts were honored for their performances on the field. Jack Combs was honored as defensive player of the week after he caused five turnovers to go with three ground balls. For the second time this season, Henry Dodge was honored for his work at the faceoff spot as he was named faceoff specialist of the week after going 17-27 with eight ground balls. Combs was also nominated to the USILA team of the week for his performances against UMass.

STATISTICAL LEADERS
Through six games this season, the Catamounts have had several players crack the top 30 in national rankings for various categories. Charlie Pope and Max Frattaroli are tied for fourth in individual man-up goals, with each having four. Pope is also ranked 13th in the country in goals per game, averaging 3.17. George Egan is sixth in the nation in saves, averaging 14.00 per game. Dodge is ranked in two categories: 17th for groundballs with 6.83 per game and 24th in faceoff winning percentage, as he has won 57.4% of his faceoffs. Lastly, Griffin Fenech ranks 21st in shooting percentage, scoring 47.1% of his shots.

LAST TIME OUT
Vermont defeated then #20 UMass 13-12, marking the program's first-ever win over the Gorillas and its second-ever win over a ranked non-conference opponent. Pope led the Catamounts in scoring with five goals. Cullen Decker, Brock Haley, Luke Reiter, and Harrison Josloff all had four points for Vermont. Egan had 10 saves in the victory.

SCOUTING THE BIG GREEN
Dartmouth has gotten off to a 2-3 start under first-year head coach Sean Kirwan. The Big Green dropped their last game to Stony Brook 15-12 on Mar. 5. Colin McGill leads Dartmouth in scoring with 14 goals and 15 points on the season. Hopper Zappitello leads them in assists with nine to go along with five goals for 14 points. Ryan Williamson figures to start cage as the first year has an 11.88 goals against average in four starts this year.

INSIDE THE SERIES
The Big Green hold a 22-7 lead in the series and won the most recent matchup in 2022, 8-7 down in Hanover, where Michael McCormack had four goals on the day. The last Catamount victory came in 2020 in Burlington when Vermont won 9-8, and Ben French had three goals.
