ALBANY, N.Y. – Max Frattaroli and
Tristan Whitaker each recorded hat tricks as second-seeded Vermont came from behind to defeat third-seeded UMBC on Thursday afternoon in Albany.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- UMBC opened the game on a three-goal run with two goals from Brian Tregoning and a goal from Jordan Galloway.
- Griffin Fenech gave the Catamounts there first goal of the game when he scored on an assist from Brock Haley.
- Three minutes later, Frattaroli cut the deficit to one when he scored on an assist from Luke Reiter.
- Mike Doughty and Kyle added tallies a little less than two minutes apart to push the Retrievers lead back to three.
- Frattaroli picked up his second with three minutes to go in the quarter when he found the bottom corner off an assist from Cullen Decker.
- Whitaker cut the UMBC lead to one with three minutes played in the second quarter when he found the back of the net after an assist from Charlie Pope.
- Fenech tied the game up at five all when he scored off an assist from Pope with four minutes to go in the first half.
- The Retrievers opened the second half on a three-goal run through Dane Hall, Galloway, and Allen Hockenberry.
- Whitaker got Vermont's first goal of the second half with three and a half minutes to go in the third quarter when he scored unassisted.
- Pope brought the game within one when he scored off the assist from Reiter with four minutes gone in the fourth quarter.

- With three points, Pope now has 50 points on the season for the first time in his career. His 41 goals are the ninth most in a single season by a Vermont player.
- The Catamounts defense held the UMBC offense scoreless in the second and fourth quarters including a 20-minute stretch to end the first half.
