BURLINGTON, Vt. – The Vermont women's soccer team kicks off their 2024 campaign on Saturday night (Aug. 17) as they cross enemy lines to play UConn at 7 p.m. on UConn+ at Morrone Stadium in Storrs, Connecticut.

VERMONT OUTLOOK

• Vermont will look to make back-to-back trips to the America East playoffs this year as they look to improve upon last year's 10-7-1 (3-4-1 AE) season, where they made it to the America East Semifinals.
• Vermont returns four America East All-Conference members from their 2023 squad, Kate Bossert, Bailey Ayer, Maddy Cronin, and Bridget Kennedy.
• UVM returns seven of the starters from last year's team including their top two scorers in Bossert (10 goals, two assists) and Ayer (five goals, five assists).
• Vermont was picked to finish fifth in the America East 2024 Women's Soccer Preseason Coaches' Poll.
• The Catamounts are 6-6-1 in season openers under Coach Kristi Huizenga. In the last seven seasons, Vermont is 4-2-1 in season openers.

SCOUTING THE HUSKIES

• UVM Head Coach Kristi Huizenga (Lefebvre) played 93 career games for the Huskies serving as team captain in 2005. She posted eight goals and 13 assists in her career and was named UConn's team MVP in 2005 and was a NEWISA All-New England selection. She won a Big East Championship in 2002 and 2004 and in 2003 the Huskies reached the NCAA Championship game.

• This will be the 19th matchup all time between UConn and Vermont. Vermont's last victory against UConn came in 1979 during their first ever meeting, when they defeated the Huskies on the road, 2-1 in overtime.
• Last season UConn finished third in the Big East Conference with a 6-1-3 record in conference play and finished 10-4-5 overall.
• The Huskies are headlined by 2023 Goalkeeper of the Year Kaitlyn Mahoney who notched 10 shutouts for the season, letting in just three goals over the entire league slate.
