COACH'S QUOTE
"That was a good battle on both sides," said Head Coach
Steve Wiedler. "Their goalie made some big saves, ours did too. They scored late and we answered back to get to OT. End of the day they got the one extra goal they needed, and we didn't. So, we have to get back to work and reengage for tomorrow's contest."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The two teams played a scoreless opening frame Friday night. Vermont's Axel Mangbo and Northeastern's Cameron Whitehead each made 10 saves in the first period. It was the first scoreless first period the Catamounts have been involved in since Dec. 14.
- Late in the second Northeastern rang two shots off the post within a minute of each other but through two periods it remained scoreless.
- The Huskies opened the scoring with 8:17 to play in the third period with a power play tally. Christophe Tellier a fed a cross-crease pass to Nick Rhéaume on the doorstep, and he tapped home his second goal of the season. Williams also earned an assist on Northeastern's sixth power play goal of the season.
- With the goaltender pulled for an extra-attacker the Catamounts equalized with 1:38 to play in the contest. Luca Münzenberger took a pass from Jax Wismer along the blue line and feathered a pass to Colin Kessler at the faceoff dot. Kessler one-timed home his team-leading eighth goal of the season.
- Williams and Vinny Borgesi broke into the Vermont zone on a two-on-two rush in overtime. They crisscrossed at the top of the slot and Williams created just enough space between him and the UVM defender to fire a shot labeled for the top corner to seal the win for Northeastern.
