BURLINGTON, VT. – Lauren DeGroot and Sydney Remington each recorded a goal as Vermont (4-3-4, 2-0-1 AE) defeated UMBC (5-6-3, 1-3 AE) 2-0 at Retriever Soccer Park on Sunday afternoon.

 "It was great to get a win and a shutout on the road," said Head Coach Kristi Huizenga. "I thought our group handled the game very well today start to finish. Our backline was composed and set the tone for most of the game, and I thought our midfield did well to battle and regain possession. Lauren and Syd did well to finish their chances which allowed us to finish the game with a defensive focus."



HOW IT HAPPENED

• In the 15th minute, Emma Warren took a shot just outside the box, but the UMBC goalkeeper made a comfortable save.
• In the 28th minute, Torie Synder delivered a corner to the far post, where Sydney Remington headed the ball on target. A UMBC defender cleared it off the line to prevent a goal.
• Two minutes later, Bridget Kennedy sent a high arcing through ball to Lauren DeGroot. DeGroot headed it forward, outran the defenders, and finished past the UMBC goalkeeper to give Vermont a 1-0 lead.
• At the half, Vermont led 1-0 and edged UMBC on shots on goal four to one.
• In the 56th minute, Madeline Gardner intercepted a pass and broke in alone, but the UMBC goalkeeper made a diving save to her right.
• In the 77th minute, UMBC earned a free kick, but Kylee Carafoli punched the ball clear.
• Five minutes later, Lauren DeGroot had a one-on-one opportunity but barely missed the net wide left.
• In the 83rd minute, Madeline Gardner made a pass to Sydney Remington, who took a shot from way outside the box, hitting a high arcing shot that went just over the goalkeeper's reach. Remington gave the Catamounts a 2-0 lead with six minutes left to play.

• Morgan Barry recorded her first collegiate assist.
