ORONO, Maine – The eighth-ranked Maine Black Bears used a four-goal second period Friday night to defeat Vermont 7-0 in Hockey East action from Alfond Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Catamounts jumped out to a quick start Friday night, outshooting the Black Bears 7-1 in the opening five minutes. Maine's Albin Boija made three key saves on a early UVM power play to keep the contest scoreless.
- Maine opened the scoring 6:29 into the first period with a fortuitous bounce in front of UVM's Aiden Wright. Jeremy Langlois fired a shot from the point and Miguel Marques redirected the shot from beside the UVM net. Marques' deflection bounced off a UVM defender to the front of the net where Sully Scholle backhanded it past Wright for his second goal of the year.
- Langlois doubled the Maine lead 43 seconds into the second period. He fired a shot from the point that found the back of the net, UVM's Wright had two defenders and two Maine skaters in front and never saw the shot.
- The Black Bears took control of the game with three goals in 3:16 late in the second period. Josh Nadeau (12:36) and Owen Fowler (15:52) notched power play tallies while Marques scored 25 seconds after Nadeau. Vermont's Axel Mangbo came on in relief of Wright (17 saves) after the offensive surge.
- Justin Poirier scored his tenth of the season and Nadeau added his second of the night in the third period to close out the scoring for the Black Bears.

- Vermont blocked 27 shots Friday night a new-high in the Coach Wiedler era. Sebastian Törnqvist and Caeden Herrington each blocked a team-high four shots.
- Colin Kessler and Max Strand were tied with a game-high five shots on goal.
