HIGH POINT, N.C. – Senior Nikola Priede and Jadyn Weltz each scored 19 points, but Vermont (4–1, 0–0 AE) dropped its first game of the season, falling to High Point (5–0, 0–0 BSC) on Thursday evening at the Qubein Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Priede scored Vermont's first basket at the 7:56 mark of the first quarter, tying the game at two. High Point responded with nine straight points and led by 14 at the end of the quarter.

The Panthers kept control in the second. Graduate student Aaliyah Collins drew a shooting foul on senior Weltz at 7:16 and converted both free throws.

Junior Macy Spencer hit a pull-up jumper at 6:18 to push the High Point lead to 29–22.

Priede answered with a turnaround jumper with 6:05 left in the half, then scored again on the following possession to cut the deficit to three.

The Catamounts trimmed the margin to two on baskets by senior Catherine Gilwee and two more from Priede, making it 36–34 before Spencer scored in transition to send High Point into halftime up four.

Sophomore Emma Haan and junior Malia Lenz knocked down back-to-back three-pointers to tie the game at 46 with 59 seconds left in the third quarter.

Spencer then found senior Neveah Zavalan for a floater to put the Panthers ahead 51–47.

Gilwee hit a step-back jumper just before the buzzer to bring Vermont within two.

Collins opened the fourth quarter with a strong baseline drive at the 7:12 mark, scoring her 22nd point of the night.

Spencer and Collins combined for 52 points as High Point closed out a 71–65 win.
