COACH'S QUOTE
"I really want to thank the fans that show up for us every night," said Head Coach
Steve Wiedler. " I mean we're on break - no students to fill out the student section and we still had a crowd. We didn't honor the privilege of our fan base with our effort tonight. I mean maybe effort is the wrong word. Maybe it's more like respect for the game. We were throwing the puck around and just gave the game to Harvard. They're a good team, I'm not trying to disrespect those guys by saying that. But we have to look in the mirror on that one. Lacking some accountability right now and I'm not about to utter one excuse to anyone. Has to be better."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Catamounts opened the scoring 2:52 into the first period with Blake Steenerson's first goal of the season. Vermont won a faceoff clean back to the point and Dyland Gratton moved the puck over to his partner Sebastian Törnqvist and he quick fired a shot on goal. Harvard's Ben Charette made the initial save, but Steenerson chopped home the rebound to make it 1-0.
- Marek Hejduk equalized for the Crimson 49 seconds later. Will Hughes fired a shot from the point that Hejduk redirected past Aiden Wright for his second goal of the season.
- Aidan Lane gave Harvard its first list lead of the evening at the 4:44 mark of the opening period. Lane fired a shot towards Wright that was stopped initially by the first year netminder but as he moved the puck inadvertently deflected into the back of the net.
- The Crimson extended its lead to 3-1 with 3:07 to play in the first period. Mick Thompson one-timed a shot from the point that found the corner through heavy traffic in front.
- Harvard extended the lead to three goals on the power play 8:18 into the middle frame on the power play. Lucas St. Louis, son of former UVM star Martin St. Louis, fed a shot pass down low to Casey Severo and he redirected it over Wright's shoulder to make it 4-1.
- Philip Tresca closed out the scoring in the third period with his fifth goal of the season 4:52 into the final frame.
