COACH'S QUOTE
"Two bad losses after a great win at Maine," said Head Coach
Steve Wiedler. "I'm refusing to throw out any of the excuses that we could use. We know what this group can do. We will continue to coach them up. I thought we brought effort in the first two periods; I think our younger guys let some frustration set in halfway through the third and that caused the penalties. That's a good team over there - Dartmouth is undefeated for a reason. There are lessons to learn from playing that team and we will be better in the long run because of it."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Dartmouth had opened the scoring in all six of their games this season and they continued that streak Friday evening. Cam MacDonald notched the icebreaker for the Big Green just 5:49 into the contest. With a scramble in front of UVM's Aiden Wright Hank Cleaves curled and fired the puck on net and it deflected off MacDonald and in.
- Sebastian Törnqvist equalized for the Catamounts on a four-on-two rush at the 12:28 mark of the opening frame. Jonah Aegerter tried a jam play at the side of the net after cutting around the Big Green defense. His initial attempt was stopped and then Colin Kessler pushed the rebound back on net. Törnqvist followed the play and tapped home the second rebound for his second goal of the year.
- Dartmouth regained a one-goal edge 78 seconds later. Nikita Nikora forced a turnover in the Vermont zone and then feathered a cross-ice pass to Jason Stefanek who one-timed home his first career goal.
- Aegerter answered back for the Catamounts with 4:33 to play in the first period. The Dartmouth defense cleared a puck from around the crease with a high flip. Caeden Herrington caught the puck settled it down and fired a quick wrist shot. Aegerter was alone in front and redirected the shot past Dartmouth's Roan Clarke for his second goal of the year.
- Dartmouth scored twice in the final 2:25 of the first with goals from Nathan Morin and Colin Grable to take a 4-2 lead into the break.
- 5:03 into the second period Dartmouth's Eric Charpentier one-timed home a slap shot from the point to make it 5-2 in favor of the hosts.
- Cooper Cleaves and Alex Krause added power play tallies in the third period to round out the scoring for the Big Green.
