HONOLULU, HI – Vermont (5–2, 0–0 AE) got back into the win column Friday afternoon, defeating Hawaii (4–1, 0–0 BWC) at Bankoh Arena at the Stan Sheriff Center. Senior Nikola Priede led all Catamounts with 18 points.

"We were able to grind out a road win today against a strong Hawaii team," said Mayer Women's Basketball Head Coach Alisa Kresge. "Overall, we did a good job taking care of the basketball and creating great opportunities. Defensively, I thought we responded well to adjustments, but we need to play without fouling."
HOW IT HAPPENED

The Catamounts opened the scoring at the 7:38 mark of the first quarter on a three-pointer by junior Malia Lenz off an assist from senior Keira Hanson.

Hawaii answered as sophomore Rebecca Moors scored back-to-back baskets to give the Rainbow Wahine a 4–3 lead with 6:22 left in the quarter.

Vermont regained control late in the quarter, taking a 14–12 lead on another Lenz three-pointer.

Lenz stayed hot to start the second quarter, knocking down her third three of the game at the 8:30 mark.

Hawaii first-year Keira Curtis would respond with a three of her own to tie it at 17.

The Catamounts built their largest lead of the game, 30–21, when Priede hit a fadeaway with 3:45 remaining in the half.

Hawaii would go on a 13–3 run to take a 34–33 lead into halftime. Sophomore Kira-May Filmeu drilled a three-pointer and senior Izzy Forsyth converted an and-one to cap the surge.

Vermont regained momentum in the third. Lenz buried her fourth triple to push the Catamounts ahead 41–36 at the 6:22 mark, and Priede added two free throws.

UVM outscored Hawai'i 24–13 in the third, and a left-handed floater by senior Catherine Gilwee at the buzzer sent the Catamounts into the fourth with a 57–47 advantage.

The Catamounts never trailed in the final quarter. Senior Jadyn Weltz hit a step-back three with 5:05 remaining to stretch the lead to 13.

Hawaii would respond late with a 7–0 run, but Weltz, Gilwee and Haan each went to the line in the closing minutes to secure a 73–67 Vermont victory.
