HONOLULU, HI– Vermont (6–2, 0–0 AE) got its second straight win Saturday afternoon, defeating Santa Clara (6–3, 0–0 WCC) at Bankoh Arena at Stan Sheriff Center. Senior Keira Hanson scored 11 of her 19 total points in the third quarter.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Catamounts opened the game with two fast-break layups by senior Jadyn Weltz and junior Malia Lenz to take a 4–0 lead at the 8:34 mark of the first quarter.

Vermont followed with three straight baskets. A layup from senior Nikola Priede, a close-range finish by redshirt freshman Savanna Creal, and a three-pointer from sophomore Emma Haan to extend the lead to 14–8 with 3:21 left in the period.

The second quarter started with back-and-forth action. Santa Clara scored on a layup by redshirt junior Maia Jones and a three-pointer from sophomore Aniya Hooker to cut the deficit to four at the 8:30 mark.

The Catamounts answered with a Priede layup and a mid-range jumper from Weltz, pushing the lead to 21–16 with 6:14 remaining in the quarter.

Haan drove down the lane for a layup, and Priede connected on a close-range jumper to give Vermont a 25–21 advantage.

Jones opened the third quarter with a three-pointer to tie the game at 26.

Hanson responded by scoring 11 straight points for Vermont, capping the run with a driving layup to put the Catamounts up 37–31.

Vermont closed the third quarter with a Lenz three-pointer just before the buzzer.

The Catamounts opened the fourth with a 9–2 run before Jones stopped the surge with another three-pointer.

Hanson and Weltz sealed the 63–51 victory at the free-throw line.
