HONOLULU, HI – Vermont (6–3, 0–0 AE) dropped its final game of the American Savings Bank Rainbow Wahine Showdown to Lindenwood (6-2, 0–0 OVC). Despite the loss, the Catamounts claimed the tournament title through a three-team tiebreaker determined by fewest points allowed. Seniors Nikola Priede and Keira Hanson were named to the All-Tournament Team.

"As for the game, we are frustrated because we didn't focus on executing the things we could control: rebounding and talking on the defensive end," said Mayer Women's Basketball Head Coach Alisa Kresge. "I am proud with our group winning the Rainbow Wahine Showdown and how we represented UVM. Three games in three days was a good test, taught us about ourselves, and now we have to take those lessons moving forward."
HOW IT HAPPENED

Senior Catherine Gilwee opened the scoring for Vermont with back-to-back driving layups, tying the game at 4-4 with 7:31 left in the first quarter.

Lindenwood answered quickly as graduate student Aleshia Jones hit a jumper and a layup to give the Lions an 8-4 lead.

Vermont closed the quarter on a 7-0 run with baskets from Priede, Jadyn Weltz, and redshirt first-year Savanna Creal. The Catamounts also hit three free throws during the stretch to take an 11-8 lead into the second.

Lindenwood surged back out of the break with a 14-2 run before Weltz scored on a second-chance layup to cut the deficit to 21-15.

Vermont responded by scoring 10 of the final 12 points of the half. Hanson buried back-to-back three-pointers to pull the Catamounts within 25-23 with 1:14 remaining.

The teams traded baskets early in the third quarter, beginning with a Priede layup followed by a Jones fast-break finish that put Lindenwood up 29-27 at the 8:35 mark.

Hanson later hit three straight jumpers to tie the game at 37-37 with 3:57 left in the quarter. The Catamounts closed the quarter with six unanswered points to take a 45-42 lead into the fourth.

Junior Brooke Coffey fueled a Lindenwood push in the final frame, scoring back-to-back layups to put the Lions ahead 54-50 with 4:56 to go.

Junior Ellie Brueggemann sealed the win at the free-throw line, sinking both attempts to secure a 58-54 Lindenwood victory.

Lindenwood shot 30.8% from three-point range compared with Vermont's 28.6%.
