Men’s Lacrosse Begins Conference Play on the Road at UMBC

BURLINGTON, Vt. – Vermont (2-3) will open America East conference play on the road, gearing up to face UMBC (2-2) on Saturday (Mar. 15) in Baltimore, MD from UMBC Stadium. The game will begin at 11:00 a.m. and be streamed live on ESPN+.

 VERMONT OUTLOOK
  • The Catamounts most recently fell to UMass last Saturday from Virtue Field, 11-7.  
  • Tristan Whitaker led the offense with four points on four goals, a season high for Whitaker in both categories. Cullen Decker and Kean Paré were the only other two Catamounts with multiple points, seeing each player register one goal and one assist.
  • Paré's goal against UMass was his first career goal while Decker secured his second multi-point game of the season.
  • Henry Dodge notched a game high 10 ground balls, the third time this season recording 10 or more ground balls in a single game. Dodge also went 11-14 from the faceoff dot, earning America East Faceoff Specialist of the Week honors for the fourth time this season.
  • Vermont ranks second in the Nation and first in the America East Conference in face-off win percentage, winning 66.7% of their face-offs.
  • Dodge leads the country in ground balls per game, collecting 9.40 ground balls a game. Dodge also individually ranks second in the country and first in America East in face-off win percentage, winning 70.8% of his face-off draws.
  • Luke Reiter ranks second in the America East conference in assists per game, securing 1.40 helpers a game.
  • Jack Combs ranks seventh in the country and first in the America East Conference in caused turnovers per game, notching 2.40 caused turnovers a game.  
  • Saturday will be the 24th meeting all-time between Vermont and UMBC. The Catamounts currently hold a 9-14 all-time record against the Retrievers, winning seven of the last 10 meetings and five consecutive.
  • First Year Catamount Matthew Drimmie is the leading scorer for Vermont, scoring 13 points on eight goals and five assists. Reiter is second with 10 points (three goals, seven assists). Whitaker and Decker are tied for third with seven points each.  
  • Reiter is the top distributor for Vermont this season with seven assists. Drimmie is second with five assists, while Decker is third with four.
  • Ryan Daly is 2-3 in cage this season and has posted a 10.68 GAA, good for second lowest in the America East Conference, and a 52.3 save percentage, good for second highest in the America East Conference.
 
 
SCOUTING THE RETREIVERS
  • UMBC currently holds a 2-2 overall record, going 1-1 both at home and on the road to start the season. The Retrievers opened the 2025 campaign winning their first two games against Drexel University (9-6 Win) and Mount St. Mary's (12-6 Win), before losing two straight games, one to Towson University (10-17 Loss) and the other to #13 Ranked University of Richmond (8-14 Loss).
  • Senior midfielder Jordan Galloway leads the team in points, scoring 12 points on eight goals and four assists.
  • Sophomore midfielder Corey Myers leads the team in goals, collecting nine so far this season. Myers has also added two assists for 11 total points thus far.
  • First year midfielder Xander Maxwell leads the team in assists, notching five on the campaign thus far. Maxwell has recorded a multi-point game in all four of the Retrievers contests to start the season.
  • Redshirt junior Connor McMahon is the starting goalie for UMBC and has posted a 10.76 GAA in four games with a 41.9 save percentage.
