MEN'S HOCKEY NOTEBOOK
Vermont (11-18-3, 6-14-2 HEA) will close out the 2024-25 regular season with two games at Gutterson Fieldhouse as they host No. 8 UConn (19-10-4, 11-8-4 HEA) and No. 9 Boston University (18-12-2, 12-8-2 HEA) in a split weekend set. UVM will host the Huskies at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday evening and the Terriers at 7 p.m. on Saturday night. Both contests will air live on ESPN+ with Rob Ryan on the call and the games will also be broadcast on WVMT with the voice of the Catamounts Adam LaFleur in the Handy Toyota Broadcast Booth.

Thursday is Vermont Night presented by Vermont Federal Credit Union. Cabot, Lake Champlain Chocolates, Miller Farms will have samples and Vermont National Country Club will be raffling off a free foursome. Vermont Federal Credit Union will be at the student section entrance with co-branded water bottles along with other items and raffling off a YETI cooler. Texas Roadhouse will be giving away free appetizer coupons for fans. Speeder & Earl's Coffee will be giving away 200 to-go mugs for fans. Canada Dry will have exit sampling and will be hosting a shootout in the first intermission, with two UVM students having the opportunity to win $2,500 in tuition.

Saturday is Senior Night presented by Widewail. Prior to the game the Catamounts will honor their six seniors and one graduate student.  Widewail will be doing an on-ice t-shirt toss for fans in between the first and second periods. MVP Healthcare will be distributing 500 water bottles and NBT Bank will be giving away 500 co-branded Pom Hats. The Alumni Association will have tabling for this game and will be giving out Pom Poms.

MAATTA GOING OUT WITH SCORING BANG
- Senior co-captain Joel Määttä has five goals and five assists for 10 points over UVM's last eight games.
- With his recent form he is now the Catamounts leading scorer this season with nine goals and 17 assists for 26 points.
SPITSEROV HEATING UP
- Senior forward Timofei Spitserov is now tied for the team lead in scoring with 11 goals this season.
- UVM is 6-1-1 this season when Spitserov scores.
PLAYING WITH THE LEAD
- Vermont is 8-0-3 this season when leading after two periods.
- When leading after the opening frame the Catamounts are 6-3-1.
- The Catamounts have won three games this season when tied after the first period and second period.
ROAD WARRIORS
- The Catamounts 4-2 road win over Merrimack Feb. 14 was their eighth road win of the season.
- The eight road wins are the most by UVM since they had nine during the 2015-16 campaign.
SHOOT TO SCORE
- The Catamounts are shooting at a 10.9% clip this season which is tied for 12th in the NCAA.
- UVM is averaging 3.03 goals per game which would be their highest output since the 2016-17 campaign.
- Vermont has scored 97 goals this season already, their best output since the 2016-17 campaign. Their 57 goals in Hockey East play are also their best since 16-17.
PLAYOFF PICTURE
- The Catamounts enter the weekend in 10th place in Hockey East with 22 points. They are one point behind Northeastern and six back of Merrimack in eighth place. Seeds six-through eight in Hockey East will host seeds 9-11 in the Hockey East Opening Round on Wednesday, March 12.
- Entering the weekend UVM can finish anywhere from eighth to 11th in the league standings. The Catamounts must win both games in regulation this weekend to have a chance at hosting on March 12 at the Gut.
- Boston University has clinched a spot in the Quarterfinals on Saturday, March 15 but needs a point this weekend to seal home ice. UConn sits in fourth place one point ahead of Providence for the final home ice spot.

SCOUTING THE HUSKIES
- The Huskies are ranked No. 8 in the country and are close to locking down their first-ever berth in the NCAA Tournament, they are currently eighth in the Pairwise too.
- Last weekend they swept a weekend series with Northeastern. UConn can finish anywhere from third to sixth place in Hockey East, as one point separates them from fifth place Providence, and four points separates them from sixth place UMass.
- A pair of UConn forwards Hudson Schandor and Joey Muldowney are tied for the team lead with 36 points this season. Muldowney is tied for second in Hockey East with 20 goals.
- UConn is extremely dangerous when shorthanded, they lead the NCAA with nine shorthanded tallies this season. The Huskies Tabor Heaslip scored shorthanded in UConn's 6-5 overtime win over the Catamounts on Nov. 3.
- Vermont leads the overall series 27-16-1 with UConn, although the Huskies have won seven of the last nine contests.
- The Catamounts first-ever win against a team currently in Hockey East came against the Huskies. On December 27, 1963, in their inaugural campaign Vermont defeated the Huskies 11-2.
SCOUTING THE TERRIERS
- The Terriers are currently seventh in the Pairwise and third in Hockey East.
- Boston University hosts No. 6 Providence at Agganis Arena on Thursday night.
- BU will secure home ice in the quarterfinals with one more point earned or if UConn drops a point at the Gut on Thursday.
- BU hasn't played since Feb. 25 when they skated to a 2-2 tie against UConn.
- Terriers' defenseman Cole Hutson was named Hockey East Rookie of the Month on Tuesday after leading all NCAA rookies in goals (5) and all NCAA defensemen in goals and points (11) during February.
- Vermont is 24-63-10 all-time against the Terriers. Boston University has won nine straight in the series, including two games at Agganis Arena in January.
- Vermont's last win came in January of 2022 as William Lemay notched his first career game-winning goal in overtime to defeat the Terriers 2-1 on Jan. 21. It was the first time in program history UVM defeated Boston University in overtime.Â

- Among players returning this season to Catamount Country, two players played in all 35 games during the 2023-24 season, Will Zapernick and Timofei Spitserov. Zapernick has also played in all 32 contests this season.
