COACH'S QUOTE
"It was really good to get the season going," said Head Coach
Jim Plumer. "We really had to work to score against Saint Michael's outstanding goalie. I was very pleased to have eight different players score today and I hope that boats well for our ability to put pucks in the net this year. We will take the next two weeks to really fine-tune some things and be ready for Penn State.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After a scoreless opening frame, the Catamounts struck first 2:38 into the second period when Brooke George crashed the net with Lauren O'Hara, getting rewarded by pinning the rebound of O'Hara's initial shot to the center of the net, giving Vermont a 1-0 lead.
- A little over five minutes later at the 8:37 mark of the second frame, Oona Havana made it 2-0 when she cut her way to the slot, unleashing a wrist shot to the bottom left corner, doubling the Catamount lead.
- Morgann Skoda found the back of the net 11:45 into the middle frame, putting away a rebound in front of the net amid chaos while falling to the ice, extending the Catamount lead to 3-0.
- Josie Hemp would tally one more goal for UVM before the end of the second period, earning Vermont a four-goal cushion heading into the final 20 minutes of action.
- O'Hara dialed up the fifth goal of the game just 1:18 into the final period, skating right up the middle of the slot and ripping a snapshot to the left side of the net, giving Vermont a 5-0 advantage.
- Kaylee Lewis notched the Catamounts' sixth goal of the game, finding the top left corner, extending the lead to 6-0.
