BOONE, N.C.– The Catamounts (5-3, 0-0 AE) were handed their third loss of the season on Sunday afternoon, falling to App State (6-1, 1-0 MAC) at Dr. Jan C. Watson Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Scoring started early for the Mountaineers. Just over a minute into the game, sophomore midfielder Frederique Grimberge found a loose ball just in front of Merle Vaandrager to give App State the 1-0 lead.

The Catamounts responded in the ninth minute. Senior midfielder Sophia Lefranc intercepted a pass just outside of the striking circle, weaved past a defender, and lifted the ball over the sprawling goalkeeper to tie the game at 1-1.

App State regained the lead in the 17th minute of the game when junior midfielder Sophie Baxter converted on a penalty stroke.

The Catamounts responded with pressure, earning back-to-back penalty corners and registering two shots on goal.

In the 19th minute, Grimberge netted her second goal of the game on a breakaway-style goal for App State.

The Mountaineers would tally its third goal of the second quarter off a short corner that senior midfielder Lisa Boekaar converted on.

Grimberge completed her hat trick in the 38th minute of the game with a backhand finish from the top of the striking circle.

Just minutes later, in the 40th minute, senior forward Kate Richardson for App State scored from the top of the striking circle to extend App State's lead.

Senior forward Kate Richardson added to the total in the 40th minute, and Hadley Kuzmicky capped off the scoring in the 47th to push App State's lead to six.
