COACH'S QUOTE
"Really complete performance tonight and a big boost for us to score five goals," said Head Coach
Jim Plumer. "This team is competing so hard shift to shift and our depth is really showing.
Morgann Skoda's line with
Makena Lloyd-Howe and
Darci Matson were outstanding and it was great to see Darci finally put one in the net. Our special teams are playing so well right now. Now the challenge is to stay focused and hungry for tomorrow."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Following a scoreless first period that saw Zoe Cliche make 12 saves, it was the Catamounts that pounced on the scoreboard first, seeing Darci Matson score her first goal in the green and gold. Makena Lloyd-Howe managed to keep the puck deep in the Terrier zone, working to find Matson in the slot who whipped a shot over the glove of Michelle Pasiechnyk, earning Vermont the 1-0 lead 5:03 into the second period.
- Boston University saw a prime scoring opportunity with 6:29 on the clock in the middle frame when Sydney Healey dangled her way into the slot on an offensive rush, snapping a shot on goal that rung off the crossbar, hitting Cliche in the back seeing the puck slowly start rolling towards the net. Lauren O'Hara, who displayed incredible awareness, was backdoor to bat the puck out of harm's way, pushing the puck under Cliche allowing for a whistle, maintain the Catamount 1-0 advantage.
- Vermont doubled its lead 15:34 into the second period on the power play, seeing Oona Havana feed Julia Mesplède who elected to fire a shot on net from the far circle. Mesplède's shot deflected off Rose-Marie Brochu, finding the back of the net, earning the Catamounts a 2-0 lead.
- Nearly two minutes later 17:33 into the middle frame, Vermont struck again on the power play, this time getting a goal from Stella Retrum who crashed the net and pounced on her own rebound shot from the faceoff, sniping the bottom left corner for her eighth goal of the season, handing the Catamounts a 3-0 lead heading into the final period of play.
- With 11:09 on the clock in the third period, Vermont scored for the third time on the power play, seeing Morgann Skoda bury her seventh goal of the season after cashing in on the rebound off Josie Hemp's initial shot on goal. The Catamounts gained a 4-0 advantage with their third power play goal of the game. Ashley Kokavec earned a secondary assist on UVM's fourth goal of the game.
- The Terriers orchestrated a power play goal of their own 10:45 into the final frame, seeing Keira Healey score her first career goal off a one-timer, going bar down to bring Boston University back within three, 4-1.
- UVM responded just over one minute later while being shorthanded, seeing Retrum pick off a Terrier drop pass, feeding O'Hara on the far side who slapped in her fourth goal of the season, securing Vermont its second shorthanded goal on the campaign, regaining the four-goal advantage, 5-1.
- Boston Universities Sydney Healey scored a breakaway goal with 48 seconds of regulation remaining, but the damage was already done as the Catamounts skated away with the 5-2 victory from Walter Brown Arena.
