COACH'S QUOTE
"Hard fought game, we got ourselves in some penalty trouble," said Head Coach
Steve Wiedler. "Both teams were heading to the box a lot tonight. I guess that can happen in a tight Hockey East contest. Quick turnaround tomorrow, have to recover and get back to work." Â
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Catamounts appeared to open the scoring 5:06 into the first period during a period of four-on-four action. Jonah Aegerter put home a rebound past Michael Simpson but after a UNH challenge it was disallowed for an offside entry.
- Just 36 seconds later UVM did take the lead with their second power play goal in as many games. With a four-on-three advantage Colin Kessler found Cédrick Guindon alone at the top of the slot. He fired a shot on net that deflected off Ethan Burroughs pads right to Michael Hagens who put home his first as a Catamount 5:42 into the first to make it 1-0.
- Vermont doubled its advantage with 7:39 to play in the second period. Sebastian Törnqvist fired a shot from the point that was redirected in front by Zach Filak and just trickled past Simpson. Tyler Dysart earned his first assist of the season on the play.
- UNH cut into the Vermont lead with the first power play goal against allowed by the Catamounts this season. Jacob Oster made an initial save on Emile Guite but Cam MacDonald was able to stash home the rebound on his backhand to make it 2-1 with 3:59 to play in the second.
- Kessler almost reestablished the two-goal cushion early in the third. With UVM on the power play he cut into the slot and fired a shot off the cross bar 2:01 into the third.
- With 7:23 to play in regulation UNH tied the contest with their second power play goal of the night from Rasmus Svartstrom.
- With 2:51 to play in the New Hampshire zone UNH's Jacob Newcombe passed a broken stick towards UVM's Loiselle drawing aa call from the officials.
- Rule 55.3 states, "When any member of the defending team throws or shoots any part of a stick or any other object or piece of equipment at the puck or puck carrier in his defending zone, the Referee or Linesperson shall allow the play to be completed and if a goal is not scored, a penalty shot shall be awarded to the non-offending team. This shot shall be taken by the player designated by the Referee as the player fouled.
- Since Loiselle was the skater deemed to be fouled on the play he was awarded the penalty shot. He skated in slowly on Simpson rocking back and forth before roofing a backhand for his first career goal and game-winner.
