BURLINGTON, Vt. – Vermont Field Hockey (8-2, 0-1 AE) put on a teamwork clinic against Queens (3-7) on Sunday afternoon from Moulton Winder Field, defeating the Royals 8-0 during the first game of a three-game homestand. The Catamounts contained Queens to zero shot attempts while recording a program record 18 penalty corners.

The Catamounts opened scoring with 11:57 on the clock in the opening quarter when Alicia Battistelli was awarded a penalty stroke, pinning the bottom left corner securing her sixth goal of the season, propelling Vermont in front 1-0.

Vermont doubled its lead with 5:25 remaining in the first frame, executing a penalty corner to perfection, seeing Veerle Nijhuis tally her fourth goal on the campaign launching the Catamounts ahead 2-0. Fiona McMahon recorded an assist on UVM's second goal.

Following a scoreless second quarter that saw that Catamounts record six shots on goal, Vermont was able to beat Queen's Madison Destefano for the third time with 11:46 on the clock in the third quarter, seeing Battistelli notch her second goal of the game, seventh of the season, lifting UVM to a 3-0 lead.

The Catamounts wasted no time pouncing on attack again, scoring less than a minute later when Nijhuis fed Consu de Castro for her fifth goal of the season, earning Vermont a four-goal cushion leading 4-0.

Battistelli recorded her second hattrick of the season with less than six minutes remaining in the third frame, engaging in a persistent pursuit at the net trying to get a loose ball, finding the back of the net for the eighth time this year to put the Catamounts up 5-0.

With time expiring in the third quarter, McMahon scored the Catamount's sixth goal of the day, corralling a pass from Emily Enden off a penalty corner and securing her second goal of the season, earning UVM a 6-0 advantage.

Nijhuis scored her second goal of the game with less than 11 minutes of regulations remaining, collecting a pass from Abby Wilber off a penalty corner, rifling a shot to the bottom left corner, securing her fifth goal of the season as UVM gained a commanding 7-0 lead.

McMahon registered Vermont's eighth goal of the game with less than two minutes remaining, assisted by Enden, ultimately seeing the Catamounts walked away with the 8-0 victory from Moulton Winder Field.

Nijhuis notched two goals against Queens, her second multi-goal game of the season and fourth career. Nijhuis also added one assist on Sunday, her second helper of the season and fourth of her career. It's the first time in her career notching a goal and an assist in the same game.
