COACH'S QUOTE
"Obviously, not the way we wanted the game to end," said Head Coach
Steve Wiedler. "As we grow and mature, we will get to a point that we keep that game tight and find a way to win it. We've done it throughout the season. We typically respond the right way. Back to work for tomorrow."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Ethan Burroughs opened the scoring for the Catamounts 6:42 into the first period after UVM put the first six shots on net Friday. Caeden Herrington's point shot was stopped by Samuel Richard, but the rebound came out right to Burroughs who tapped it home for his fifth goal of the season. Duncan Ramsay earned the secondary assist on the play.
- The River Hawks equalized a few minutes later with a quick passing play in the Vermont zone. Dalyn Wakely found Jay Ahearn alone in front for his 10th goal of the season at the 8:58 mark of the opening period.
- After a scoreless second period the River Hawks took their first lead of the game on the power play 7:57 into the third period. A long puck battle ensued behind the UVM net, and it popped out to the point to Lee Parks. Parks faked a shot and then passed over to Diego Buttazzoni who one-timed a slapshot home for his fifth goal of the year.
- 38 seconds after the Buttazzoni tally Dillan Bentley scored on a breakaway to make it 3-1. Aiden Wright made a great initial stop, but Bentley converted on his own rebound.
- At the 9:43 mark of the third Dominick Rivelli made it a three-goal cushion with his first goal of the season. David Adaszynski threw a nothing wrist shot towards the net and Rivelli was able to get a stick on it and redirect it up and over Wright's shoulder.
- The Catamounts got one back on the power play with 7:57 to play in the final frame. Sebastian Törnqvist fired a wrist shot from the Hockey East logo just inside the blue line and Thomas Sinclair redirected it past Richard to make it 4-2. Sinclair's second goal of the season was also assisted by Herrington.
- The Catamounts pulled their goaltender for the extra-attacker with 3:43 to play in regulation and earned a power play. Over that final stretch UMass Lowell blocked eight Vermont shots and Richard made eight saves to preserve the win.
