COACH'S QUOTE

"Like I told the players.... disappointing," said Mayer Women's Basketball Head Coach Alisa Kresge. "Extremely disappointing, both sides of the basketball. Just our presence out there was nonexistent. It felt like we were scared of the moment. Just, unfortunately, I feel like we 've had a couple of these throughout the year. Why keep having to have wake-up calls about things we know better.... It's challenging right now. We're going to get everyone's best. Obviously, Maine is a very talented team, but we didn't help ourselves today."

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Maine's Lala Woods got the scoring started 33 seconds into the contest, draining her first three-pointer attempt to gain the 3-0 advantage.

  • Vermont was able to claw their way back to an even score with the Black Bears with 4:41 on the clock at the first media timeout, seeing Keira Hanson score the opening five points for the Catamounts on a three-pointer and a mid-range jump shot, knotting the contest at 5-5.

  • Hanson drilled her second three-pointer of the game coming out of the timeout with 3:21 remaining in the opening quarter, giving UVM the 8-5 lead. Hanson had all eight of Vermont's opening points.

  • At the end of the first quarter, the Catamounts extended their lead to 14-9, seeing Nikola Priede score her first four points of the game, and Jadyn Weltz added a bucket of her own to conclude the opening frame.

  • Malia Lenz opened scoring in the second quarter, swishing a three-pointer for her first basket of the contest, extending the UVM lead to 17-9.

  • The Black Bears orchestrated a 7-0 scoring run to bring their deficit down to one point, 17-16, with 4:48 remaining before halftime prior to the first media timeout in the second quarter. Adrianna Smith led the charge with four points in that Maine scoring run.

  • Woods got a layup to fall with 4:13 remaining until halftime, earning Maine its first lead since the beginning of the game, 18-17.

  • Both teams finished the first half on an even 3-3 scoring run, seeing the Black Bears take a 21-20 advantage into halftime over the Catamounts. Woods led all players with nine points at the half.

  • Vermont and Maine went back-and-forth to begin the third frame, seeing UVM slightly edge the Black Bears on a 6-5 scoring run, tying the game at 26-26 with 5:33 on the clock after Weltz was able to execute on two free-throw opportunities.

  • The Catamounts re-gained the lead with 4:11 on the clock in the third quarter, seeing Hanson drive hard to the rim, stop for a pull up, swishing the jump shot for her fourth basket of the game, taking the 28-26 advantage.

  • At the end of the third quarter, Maine was up by two points, 33-31, dialing up a 7-3 scoring run entering the final frame of action. Three different Black Bears contributed to the scoring run for Maine entering the fourth quarter.

  • Sarah Talon got her mid-range jumper to fall just 21 seconds into the final quarter, but Weltz responded on the other end, splashing a three-pointer to bring Vermont back to within one, 35-34.

  • Maine never let go of the lead throughout the entirety of the fourth quarter despite numerous efforts from Vermont, walking away with the 55-46 victory from Patrick Gymnasium.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

  • Hanson and Priede shared a team-high 13 points.

  • Priede recorded her third straight double-double, eighth of the season, corralling 10 rebounds to go along with her 13 points. Priede also snagged two blocks, a game high.

  • Weltz registered 11 points, two rebounds, two assists, and two steals.
