SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Ashling Marshall and Emily Degeorge each posted hat tricks Saturday afternoon leading Bryant (6-3, 1-0) in an 8-7 win over Vermont (4-5, 0-1) in both teams America East opener from Beirne Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first quarter was a defensive battle initially. Vermont's Ayla Shea made two saves in the opening 15 but the Bulldogs did take the lead late.
- With 1:51 left in the first quarter, Ashling Marshall scored from a free position opportunity and then Emily Degeorge scored with nine seconds left to give Bryant a 2-0 lead.
- Jane Trauger got the Catamounts on the board with her team-leading 23rd goal of the season from a free position opportunity with 5:40 to play in the second quarter.
- With 2:10 to play in the second Karina Sethi hit a cutting Lindsay Lefebvre in stride and she fired a low shot home for her fourth goal of the season.
- Bryant answered the Catamounts two-goal run with one of their own as Degeorge scored twice in the final 1:16 of the half to take a 4-2 advantage into the break.
- The game of runs continued in the third quarter as Lydia Doraz and Caitlin Haggerty scored for Vermont in the opening 5:05 of play to tie things up at four.
- Gabriella Constant scored for Bryant to make it 5-4 with 8:50 to play in the third quarter and the Bulldogs took that advantage into the final 15.
- Riley O'Mara and Marshall scored twice in 50 seconds to give Bryant a three-goal lead, early in the fourth, for the first time in the game.
- Haggerty cut into the lead with 9:51 to play but Marshall answered back with 8:00 to play with the score 8-5.
- With under seven minutes to play Shea made a save and set the Catamounts away in transition. Kara Rosenberger made it 8-6 with 6:38 to play.
- With an EMO opportunity Doraz struck again to make it a one-goal game with 3:54 left in regulation.
- Bryant's Donis Sierra made two saves in the final 2:45 to seal the conference win for the Bulldogs.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The Catamounts matched a season-high with 22 successful clears Saturday. They also had 22 against Iona on Feb. 17.
- Junior goalkeeper Ayla Shea made nine saves for the Catamounts Saturday. She has made nine or more saves in four games this year.
- Lydia Doraz posted her seventh multi-goal game of the season Saturday. She now has 20 goals this season and 32 points.
- Maggie Parker led all players Saturday with three caused turnovers. It marked a new career-high for the junior defender.
- Bryant is now 3-1 in its four meetings against Vermont since joining America East.
