LOWELL, Mass. – Cullen Decker and Ethan Pearson combined for seven goals on the day as Vermont (5-6, 2-2 AE) defeated UMass Lowell (2-9, 0-5 AE) 14-10 at Cushing Field. With the win, the Catamounts clinched a spot in the America East Playoffs, and head coach Chris Feifs became the program's all-time winningest coach with 76 victories.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Catamounts started the game off with a quick 2-0 run with Decker starting the scoring at the 12:02 mark of the first quarter, followed by a goal from Pearson, which was assisted by Decker.

The River Hawks responded with back-to-back goals from Nolan Marshall and Colby Frigon. The Catamounts answered with another 2-0 run of their own from the 5:33 mark to the end of the first quarter, as Zack Toll and Decker each scored unassisted goals, taking a 4-2 lead into the second quarter.

The Catamounts used a 7-3 run from the 13:18 of the second to the end of the quarter to pull away from the River Hawks. Pearson and Charles Cochran each scored twice during the stretch, while Decker, Max Frattaroli, and Toll added one goal apiece.

The River Hawks opened the third quarter with two straight goals, but the Catamounts answered with a 3-0 run. Matthew Drimmie started the surge at the 6:08 mark off an assist from Cochran, followed by goals from Decker and Toll to give Vermont a 14-7 lead heading into the final quarter.

The River Hawks scored three goals in the final quarter, but the Catamounts held on for the victory.
