BURLINGTON, Vt. — Vermont (1-0) defeated Northeastern (0-1) Friday afternoon at Moulton Winder Field. Four different Catamounts scored in the victory over the Huskies.

COACH'S QUOTE
"Great start today," said Head Coach Kate Pfeifer. "It was nice to see some offensive production from a wide range of players and execution on our attack corner set pieces. We have some work to do with defensive structure, but overall really proud of the group, and it's fun to play in front of our home crowd again!"

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Catamounts opened the scoring 6:45 into the first quarter when Veerle Nijhuis converted a penalty corner off the insertion from Abby Wilber.

• Vermont added another goal 48 seconds before halftime when De Castro collected a deflected pass and sent it to Alicia Battistelli, who fired it into the net to make it 2-0.

• The Catamounts added their third goal of the day when Addie DelOrefice sent a pass to the front of the net that Gabby Santini deflected into the back of the goal at the 6:45 mark of the third quarter. 

• Nijhuis recorded her second goal of the game at the 6:44 mark of the fourth quarter off another penalty corner that was inserted from Fiona McMahon to extend the Vermont lead to four. 

• The Huskies responded by converting on their own penalty corner just 29 seconds later when Jessica Garden redirected the original shot by Lucy Walton.  

• Isi McMahon followed that goal by recording her own at the 4:17 mark of the fourth quarter. She netted a centering pass from De Castro. 

• Northeastern tacked on one last goal with 23 seconds to go in the last quarter of play off a penalty stroke from Camille Armaganian. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

• Nijhuis led the Catamounts with two goals on the day, marking the third multi-goal game of her career.

• Santini, Battistelli, and McMahon each recorded a goal.

• De Castro recorded two assists, while Wilber and DelOrefice each added one.

• Illa Gunner faced six shots and made four saves on the day.

• Vermont had 10 shots on goal to Northeastern's six.

• With today's Win, Vermont Mutual Insurance Group will donate $100 to the Ronald McDonald House through the Cat's Win, Community Win's initiative. Vermont Mutual has donated over $6.4 Million Dollars since launching their Charitable Giving Fund.

The Catamounts will travel to Hamden, Conn., to face Quinnipiac on Sunday, Aug. 30, at noon at the Quinnipiac Field Hockey Stadium. The game will be streamed on NEC Front Row.
