FINAL SCORE: Vermont 3, Fairfield 1
FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Vermont (5-1) defeated Fairfield (3-4, 0-1 CAA), 3-1, Sunday afternoon at University Field. The win marked the Catamounts' first victory over the Stags in Fairfield since 1995. Lara Cleophas recorded an assist on all three of Vermont's goals.

"We moved the ball well today, and every positional group took ownership of their specific part of the game plan," said Head Coach Kate Pfeifer. "Fairfield is a strong, attacking team, and I thought we did well to limit their chances. It was great to see strong execution by our corner unit and, again, solid counterattack play."
HOW IT HAPPENED

After a scoreless first quarter, Veerle Nijhuis put the Catamounts on the board with 10:45 remaining in the second quarter, on a penalty corner. Nijhuis converted off a penalty insertion by Fiona McMahon and a setup by Cleophas.

Vermont doubled its lead with 7:40 remaining in the second when Cleophas sent a pass across the face of goal to Jaime Lewis, who redirected the hockey ball into the back of the cage.

After a turnover caused by Fairfield's Konni Hofmann, Camile Perlov positioned herself in front of the cage. She redirected a pass from Hofmann into the back of the net, putting the Stags on the board with 11:15 remaining in the third quarter.

Isi McMahon extended the Catamounts' lead back to two with 2:09 remaining in the third quarter, after corralling a pass from Cleophas amid a group of defenders before turning and firing a shot into the back of the net.

The Catamounts stood strong defensively in the fourth quarter, holding the Stags without a shot to secure the 3-1 victory.
