FINAL SCORE: Vermont 4, Kent State 1

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Vermont (3-0) defeated Kent State (0-3), 4-1, Saturday afternoon at Phyllis Ocker Field. Isi McMahon led the Catamounts with three points on the day, as Vermont opens the season with a 3-0 record for the first time since 2007.

"We defended well in the front 50 today, which led to exciting counterattack opportunities," said Head Coach Kate Pfeifer. "I thought our connection through the midfield was strong and helped create the four goals from the field. We'll need to sharpen our corner execution and counter control as we prepare for tomorrow."

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Consu de Castro netted the first goal 1:57 into the game to start the scoring for the Catamounts off an assist from McMahon. 

• Emily Enden buried the second goal of the game off an assist from Alicia Battistelli at the eight-minute mark of the first quarter.

• The Catamounts held strong in the second quarter, limiting the Golden Flashes to just one shot in the first half to take a 2-0 lead into halftime.

• McMahon extended the Catamounts' lead to three at the 6:25 mark of the third quarter, after converting off the Addie DelOrefice assist. 

• Jaime Lewis netted the Catamounts' fourth goal off an assist from Abby Wilber with 32 seconds left in the third quarter, extending Vermont's lead to 4-0 heading into the final quarter.

• At the 10:21 mark of the fourth quarter, the Golden Flashes got on the board with an unassisted goal from Mary Kate Finnan.

• Castro netted a goal to extend her total to two on the season.
