ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Vermont (3-1) fell to No. 8 Michigan (3-1), 4-1, Sunday afternoon at Phyllis Ocker Field. Michigan's Esmée de Willigen scored three unanswered goals to complete the hat trick.

"This was a good test for us, against a well-coached, formidable opponent," said Head Coach Kate Pfeifer. "I'm proud of the effort we gave for 60 minutes, and especially the fourth quarter fight. Alicia Battistelli netted the first goal of the game at the 11:33 mark of the first quarter off a centering feed from Consu de Castro.

The Wolverines responded with 1:57 remaining in the first quarter, as De Willigen scored her first goal of the season.

De Willigen scored her second goal of the game at the 2:40 mark of the second quarter on a hard backhand shot that found the back of the cage.

De Willigen completed her hat trick 26 seconds into the third quarter, tapping the ball into the back of the cage off a close-range feed from Dru Moffett.

The Wolverines added their fourth goal of the game at the 8:41 mark of the fourth quarter on a penalty corner, as Anojolie Norton put a shot to the back of the cage following an insertion from Juliette Manzur.
