2010-11 SEASON: Made an instant impact for the Catamounts, earning a starting spot from day one … He was the only Cat to start all 32 games during the year … Led the America East in rebounding (9.6 pg) and assist-to-turnover ratio (2.2-to-1), while finishing second in both assists (4.5 pg) and steals (1.6 pg) … Nationally he finished 30th in rebounding, 48th in assist-to-turnover ratio and 84th in assists … He finished fifth on the team in scoring, averaging 7.0 points per contest … His 143 assists were more than the next three highest Catamounts combined … Had 16 double-figure rebounding performances and earned four double-doubles on the year … Nearly recorded a triple-double in his first career game with nine points, nine assists and 10 rebounds in a win at Siena … Had a breakout game in a win over Marist with career-highs for both points (23) and rebounds (16) … Just missed out on a triple-double in a win at Iona with 13 rebounds, nine assists and seven points … Earned a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds in the America East opener at Stony Brook … Handed out a career-high 10 assists in a win over Stony Brook at home … Recorded back-to-back double-doubles in wins over UMBC (19 pts./10 rebs.) and Binghamton (12 pts./13 rebs.) … Netted double figure point totals in three straight games, including each of the America East Tournament contests.
BEFORE VERMONT: Voelkel is a 6-foot-6 forward who also played at Iona Prep in New Rochelle, N.Y. along with current teammate Sandro Carissimo … As a senior he averaged 19 points, 13 rebounds and four assists, as he wrapped up his career with 1,245 points … As a senior he was named the team's most outstanding player and earned a spot on the Journal News First Team … As a junior he was an all-state second team selection, Journal News First Team, Daily News All-Bronx Team selection and was the team's most outstanding player … Voelkel also took part in the Jordan Brand Classic Regional Game at Madison Square Garden, in a game that featured the top prep players from the New York City metropolitan area in a City vs. Suburbs showdown … In the game he had five points, nine rebounds, seven assists and three steals.
