a team captain ... Nominee for the NABC AllState Good Works Team for community outreach efforts ... Grabbed seven rebounds and added 12 points in a win over Siena ... Scored 14 points at Providence ... Asks Coach Becker to come off the bench and to start sophomore Ethan O’Day in his place following a loss to Stony Brook for the sake of the team ... Named to the Capital One All-Academic District I Team for the third time in his career ... Became the third Catamount in 2013-14 and 33rd in program history to reach the 1,000-point milestone with 14 points in Vermont’s victory over Stony Brook (2/27/14) to win the America East Regular Season title ... Finished his career ranked 27th among UVM's all-time leading scorers (1,048 points) ... Graduated in May 2013 with a dual degree in English and sociology ... 2012-13 SEASON: Served as a team captain … Started the first 15 games of the season before being sidelined with an injury (missed five contests) … Came off the bench after returning to action after the injury … Finished the year ranked second on the team in scoring (10.7 ppg) and chipped in 4.4 rebounds per game … Ranked second in America East and 42 in Division I in free throw percentage (85.4%) … Shot 42.6 percent from the field and 37.3 percent from 3-point range … Scored a season high 23 points on 8-for-11 shooting against Towson … Reached double figures in the scoring column 15 times, including seven of the final nine games of the season … Netted 16 points and grabbed five rebounds in the America East Semifinal win over UMBC … Added 11 points and six rebounds at Santa Clara in the first round of the CBI … Graduated in May with as a double major in English and sociology … Is pursuing a graduate degree … Was a Capital One Academic All-District I First Team selection, named to the America East All-Academic Team for the second straight year and earned a spot on the Division I-AAA Athletic Directors Association Scholar-Athlete Team for the second straight season.
2011-12 SEASON: Played in 35 games, making 21 starts as a sophomore … Started in 16 of the final 17 games of the season … Finished third on the team in scoring with 9.9 points per game and second in rebounding (4.1 rpg) … Shot a team-best 53.9 percent from the floor and was second in blocks (16) … He finished fourth in the America East in field goal percentage and 10
th in free throw percentage (80.3) … Reached double figures in points 18 times, while netting a career-best 24 in a win over Towson … In that game he went a perfect 11-for-11 from the floor which tied for the best single-game shooting performance in the nation for the year … Netted double figures in seven straight games near the end of non-conference play … Grabbed nine rebounds in the opener at South Florida and led UVM with eight boards in the NCAA Tournament against North Carolina.
2010-11 SEASON: Played in 31 games as a freshman, making six starts … Finished second on the team in blocks (13), fourth in rebounding (3.5 pg) and sixth in scoring (4.8 pg), while shooting 53.8 percent from the floor … In his first collegiate game he tallied 10 points on 4-for-6 shooting and added five rebounds in a win at Siena … Scored nine points in back-to-back games against Boston U and UMBC … Tallied 13 points on 4-for-4 shooting and added eight rebounds in a win at Binghamton … In Vermont’s season finale at Cleveland State he netted 12 points and added nine rebounds.
2009-10 SEASON: Sat out as a medical redshirt.
BEFORE VERMONT: Apfeld comes to Vermont from Wolfeboro, N.H. and Brewster Academy ... A McDonald’s All-American nominee, Apfeld was a team captain at Brewster during his last season there ... The 6-foot-7 forward was also a member of the National Honors Society and was his class president.
PERSONAL: Is the son of Patrick and Kristine Apfeld ... Has two siblings, Jordan and Grace ... Graduated with an undergraduate degree in English and sociology in May 2013 ... Was a member of the UVM Honors College as an undergrad ... Has aspirations of becoming a cilvil rights lawyer.
