BURLINGTON, Vt. – The University of Vermont men's basketball team will play 14 home games at Patrick Gymnasium in 2014-15. The complete schedule was announced on Thursday.
UVM played its toughest non-conference schedule in program history last season and will once again challenge itself in 2014-15. The Catamounts will face six teams that advanced to a postseason tournament last year and 10 of the 13 squads posted at least 18 wins, including seven that recorded 20-win seasons in 2013-14.
Vermont, the defending America East Regular Season Champions, open the 2014-15 regular season with a road trip to Canisius (Nov. 14) and Siena (Nov. 17), the winners of the 2014 College Basketball Invitational postseason tournament.
UVM will host Southern Vermont College in the team's home opener on November 19 at Patrick Gymnasium.
The Catamounts will also host Bryant (Nov. 26), Harvard (Dec. 6), Wagner (Dec. 14), Yale (Dec. 18) and Dartmouth (Jan. 14). Harvard is the defending Ivy League Champions, while Yale advanced to the championship game of the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament last season.
Vermont will travel to defending Atlantic 10 Champion Saint Joseph's on November 22 and will also face A-10 opponent St. Louis (Dec. 21) on the road. Both teams advanced to the NCAA Tournament last season. Saint Joseph's lost to eventual national champion Connecticut in overtime in the first round, while St. Louis fell to Louisville in the third round. The St. Louis match up will be a homecoming trip for senior
Ryan Pierson, a native of the city.
UVM's non-conference schedule is also highlighted by a second straight trip to the West Coast. Vermont will take on USC on December 30 in Los Angeles and faces UC Santa Barbara on January 2. The games will be a homecoming for senior
Hector Harold, a native of Pasadena, California.
Vermont will host a pair of exhibition games against Concordia (Quebec) on November 1 and neighboring Saint Michael's College on November 8.
The Catamounts will host Hartford on December 3 in the first America East game of the year. The rest of the conference slate will be played out during January and February. UVM's first meeting with Stony Brook is set for January 10 at Patrick Gymnasium with a return visit to Long Island on February 7. The Catamounts will also take on defending America East Champion Albany on January 28 in Burlington and close out the regular season at the Great Danes on February 28.
America East will unveil a new postseason format in 2014-15. Starting this year the men's basketball tournament, the America East Men's Basketball Playoffs, will be played at campus sites throughout, marking the first time the conference has used the high seed format since 1995.
The quarterfinal round is set for March 4 with higher seeds hosting games and will be followed by the semifinals on March 8, again at the higher seed's home court. The America East Championship game is scheduled for March 14 at the highest remaining seed. UVM posted a record of 15-1 in America East last season and went 22-11 overall, marking the sixth straight 20-win season for the program. UVM earned a berth to the NIT, the program's sixth straight postseason appearance, and faced Georgia in the first round.
The Catamounts got a jump start on the 2014-15 season with a five-game tour in Canada in August and went 3-2 on the trip.
