BURLINGTON, Vt. – The University of Vermont women's basketball program will add Emilie Cloutier to the program for the 2014-15 season. Head coach
Lori Gear McBride made the announcement today.
Cloutier, a native of Ancienne-Lorette, Quebec, transfers to Vermont following four years at the University of Rhode Island. She played the first three years of her career, but sat out the 2013-14 season with an injury. Cloutier earned a bachelor's degree from URI in May and is eligible to play immediately for the Catamounts. She will pursue a postgraduate degree at UVM.
Cloutier, a 6-1 forward, played in 70 games for the Rams and was one of two players to start all 29 games during the 2011-12 campaign. As a sophomore she ranked second on the team in scoring (9.8 ppg) and rebounding (4.4 rpg).
Prior to beginning her collegiate career she was a member of the 2008 Canadian Junior National Team and the 2009 Canadian Development National Team. She helped Cegap Ste-Foy win back-to-back national championships in 2007-08 and 2008-09.
Cloutier will join three other newcomers –
Katie Lavelle (5-9, G, Hicksville, N.Y./Long Island Lutheran),
Rachel Merrill (6-3, F, Owego, N.Y./Owego Free Academy) and
Sydney Smith (5-11, G, Vernon Hills, Ill./Vernon Hills) – on the 2014-15 roster.
