FINAL SCORE: Northeastern 4, No. 9 Vermont 1
BURLINGTON, Vt. – Four different Northeastern players scored goals and Derick Roy stopped 23 shots as the Huskies skated past ninth-ranked Vermont 4-1 in Hockey East action on Friday night at Gutterson Fieldhouse. The Catamounts fell to 15-6-1 (7-4-1 HEA), while the Huskies improved to 8-11-3 (4-7-2 HEA).

Northeastern started the night quickly as Kevin Roy beat Mike Santaguida glove side from the low left circle at 2:25 of the first period to open the scoring.

The Catamounts responded later in the frame on their first power play of the night. Brendan Bradley sent a saucer pass to the center point for Mike Paliotta, who fired a low one-timer inside the left post past Roy's pad. Alexx Privitera collected the second assist on Paliotta's sixth of the year.

Torin Snydeman posted the eventual game-winning goal for Northeastern at 12:17 of the middle period after a turnover at the NU blue line. Snydeman skated down the right wing alone on Santaguida and lifted a shot over the sophomore for a 2-1 advantage.

The Huskies were called for unsportsmanlike conduct following the go-ahead goal and took another penalty a minute later to give UVM a 5-on-3. Bradley nearly tied the game on the two-man advantage but hit the post on a deflection at the right doorstep.

Roy then denied Mario Puskarich on an open look from the slot and the Huskies killed off the remainder of the power play time. Northeastern went 4-for-4 on the kill in the second period and carried a one-goal lead into the third.

Five minutes into the final frame, Dalen Hedges set up Mike McMurtry for an insurance tally. McMurtry collected Hedges' feed at the top of the crease and deked backhand on Santaguida, sneaking a shot inside the right pipe for a 3-1 edge.

Mike Szmatula put the contest out of reach four minutes later, beating Santaguida five-hole with a backhander from the low left slot.

The Cats out-shot the Huskies 24-22 on the night as Santaguida finished with 18 saves. Puskarich registered a game-high seven shots on goal.

Vermont and Northeastern wrap up the weekend on Saturday (Jan. 17) with a non-conference game at 7:05 p.m. All the action will be streamed for free in high definition via CatamounTV.com, and radio coverage begins at 6:30 p.m. on WVMT 620-AM and SportsJuice.com with Alastair Ingram and Tom Child on the call.
