BURLINGTON, Vt. – Northeastern battled back from a pair of one-goal deficits to earn a 2-2 tie against ninth-ranked Vermont in non-conference action on Saturday night at Gutterson Fieldhouse. The Catamounts moved to 15-6-2 (7-4-1 HEA), while the Huskies pushed their record to 8-11-4 (4-7-2 HEA).
 
Vermont killed off an early NU power play and earned a two-man advantage for 1:15 shortly after. Mike Paliotta rifled a one-timer on net from the center point, and Brady Shaw stuffed home the rebound off Derick Roy's right pad. The tally was Shaw's team-leading fifth power play goal of the season.
 
The Huskies answered roughly 10 minutes later on their second power play of the period. Matt Benning created a shooting lane at the right point and fired a wrist shot toward the target. Mike McMurtry tipped the puck in the slot and beat Brody Hoffman low to the glove side.
 
Paliotta helped to restore the lead at 4:15 of the middle frame on another UVM power play. The senior took a low slap shot from the point, and Colin Markison deflected the puck past Roy for a 2-1 cushion. Alexx Privitera collected his third assist of the weekend on the play.
 
Starting at the midway point of the period, the Catamounts killed off a five-minute major with Hoffman registering several key saves. NU knotted the score at even strength with just 2:50 remaining in the second as Dalen Hedges hit Kevin Roy in stride at the Vermont blue line. Roy deked backhanded and roofed the puck past Hoffman for his second goal of the series.
 
UVM thought it had recaptured the lead at the nine minute mark of the third. Tom Forgione and Jarrid Privitera jammed a loose puck past Roy's pad near the right post, but the officials ruled that the puck never crossed the goal line. The call on the ice stood after a video review.

Both teams had a quality chance in overtime as Hedges hit the right post just 30 seconds into the extra frame. Late in overtime Jonathan Turk missed the net high on an open look from the slot.
 
Hoffman finished the night with 23 saves, while Roy stopped 30 shots. Vermont was 2-for-5 on the power play and closed the weekend 3-for-10. The Cats out-shot the Huskies 32-25, including a 10-3 edge in the third period.
 
Vermont hosts the No. 2 Boston University Terriers next weekend at Gutterson on Friday (Jan. 23) and Saturday (Jan. 24) at 7:05 p.m. Both games will be streamed for free in high definition via CatamounTV.com, and all the action can be heard on WVMT 620-AM and SportsJuice.com with pre-game coverage at 6:30 p.m.
