SWIMMING & DIVING NOTEBOOK
The Vermont women's swimming & diving team continues the 2015-16 season on Saturday (Oct. 17) with a trip to Durham, New Hampshire to face the UNH Wildcats at Swasey Pool. The meet is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m., and live video is available for free at the link below through AmericaEast.TV. The Catamounts are ranked 29th in this week's CollegeSwimming.com mid-major rankings.

OPENER IN BINGHAMTON
Vermont cruised to a 229-67 victory over Binghamton last Saturday at West Gym, but dropped a tight 167-131 decision to Army in a double dual meet to open the season. UVM divers swept the top three spots in the 3-meter event, led by Maggie Preston who registered 216.20 points to win. Preston also took first in the 1-meter event with a score of 230.80. Fellow senior Christa Weaver led the swimmers by winning the 100-yard freestyle (52.89), claiming second in the 50 free (24.06), and taking fourth in the 200 free (1:56.43).
 
SCOUTING NEW HAMPSHIRE
Saturday marks the 2015-16 season opener for New Hampshire. The Wildcats finished second overall at last year's America East Championships in Worcester with 777 points, just 14 behind league champion UMBC. Liza Baykova was named the meet's Most Outstanding Rookie, breaking the league record in the 200-yard freestyle and coming within half a second of another league record in the 100 free. The Catamounts beat the Wildcats 157-143 to open last season at Forbush Natatorium in Burlington.

CATS WALK FOR NAMI
Earlier this month, the Catamounts participated in the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) 5K Walk in Burlington for the third consecutive season. Over the last three years at the event, the women's swimming & diving program has raised over $10,000 for NAMI, which has been donated to the organization to support its mission of providing assistance and spreading awareness for those affected by mental illness. NAMI is the nation's largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans.

The Catamounts have next weekend off before hosting their first home meet against Siena on Saturday, Oct. 31 at 2 p.m. The meet will be streamed live on AmericaEast.TV.
