VERMONT WOMEN'S HOCKEY NOTEBOOKAfter 11 days off the Catamounts return to action this weekend as they host Providence College in a two-game Hockey East series at Gutterson Fieldhouse. Vermont will face the Friars at 2 p.m. on Friday and then again at 4 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.

Bridget Baker has made a habit of scoring game-winning goals against the Friars. Last season she closed out the regular season with back-to-back game-winners in a sweep of Providence on the road. This year on October 24 she did it again with a game-winner in the Catamounts 3-1 win. In seven career games against the Friars Baker has five goals.
COLANG LEADS THE TEAM IN SCORINGAfter leading the team in scoring last season senior forward
Dayna Colang has picked up right where she left off leading the team this season with four goals and one assist for five points. She has scored in four of the last five games for Vermont, including the game-winner against Maine in Vermont's 4-2 win on November 1.
CATAMOUNT POWER PLAY BACK ON TRACKAfter a tough start to the season the Catamounts power play has been clicking lately. In its last four games Vermont has converted on five of its 13 opportunities. Overall the Catamounts power play is ranked 13
th in the NCAA converting 17.9% of their chances. In the teams 4-2 win over Maine on November 1 the Catamounts had three power play goals scored by
Dayna Colang,
Alyssa Gorecki and
Saana Valkama.
VERMONT FINISHING STRONG THIS SEASONThe third period has been the Catamounts best so far this season. Six of the clubs 12 goals have come in the final frame. In Vermont's two wins this year they have outscored its opponents 4-1 in the third period.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTProvidence: The Friars came back from a 4-2 third period deficit to defeat New Hampshire 5-4 and capture their first win of the season last Saturday. Colchester native and Rice Memorial High School graduate Madison Myers picked up her first career win making 25 saves.
Forwards Brooke Boquist, Cassidy Carels, and Christina Putigna are tied for the team lead in scoring with four points in eight games this season. Boquist shares the team in lead in goals with Madison Sansone at three.
Sansone was named the Hockey East Warrior Co-Player of the Week for her efforts against New Hampshire. She scored two goals in the last two minutes of regulation to lift the Friars to their first league win. The second tally was Sansone's second career game-winning goal.
Vermont defeated Providence 3-1 on October 24 at Schneider Arena in the teams meeting earlier this season. The win was Coach Plumer's 200
th of his career.

Vermont is 7-0-1 in its last eight games against the Friars. Although the Friars lead the all-time series with a record of 26-12-1.
PROMOTIONSFans with a men's hockey ticket from Friday night's game against UConn will receive free admission to the women's hockey game Saturday at 4 p.m.

Semifinals games will take place on Lawler Rink Saturday, March 5 at 1:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. The two winners will advance to the 14th annual Women's Hockey East Championship Game to battle for the Bertagna Trophy Sunday, March 6 at 1:30 p.m. Women's Hockey East Tournament semifinal games tickets start at just $5 per session for youths and groups of ten or more, while adult admission is set at $10. Single-admission tickets are good for both of Saturday's semifinal contests.
KAYLA KRUK JOINS WOMEN'S HOCKEY THROUGH TEAM IMPACTThe women's hockey team officially drafted seven-year-old Shelburne, Vt. native Kayla Kruk through Team IMPACT. Kayla celebrated her draft day with the Catamounts last Saturday in a ceremony facilitated by the 501(c)(3) non-profit, Team IMPACT, whose mission is to improve the quality of life for children facing life-threatening and chronic illnesses through the power of team.

ALL ACROSS THE MAPThe Catamounts have players from 10 different states (Alaska, California, Florida, Illinois, Maine, Massachusetts, New York, Pennsylvania, South Carolina and Vermont), two Canadian provinces (Alberta and Ontario) and two other countries (Czech Republic and Finland). Vermont has four players from Ontario more than any other state or province.
3RD ANNUAL PACK THE GUT CHALLENGE PRESENTED BY THE WINDJAMMERThe Vermont women's hockey team will host the third annual "Pack the Gut Challenge Presented by The Windjammer" on Friday January 29 as they face Connecticut.
The goal this is to break the single game Hockey East attendance record of 2,028 fans, set by Vermont in 2013, and support the local Meals on Wheels organization.
