SCOUTING THE SAINTSSt. Lawrence is ranked 13th in both national polls with a 9-4-2 overall record through 15 games and a 4-2-2 record away from home. SLU features a balanced scoring attack with nine players who have registered at least eight points and six different skaters with at least four goals. The Saints' top two scorers this year are both defensemen, led by junior Gavin Bayreuther with six goals and six assists for 12 points, while fellow junior Eric Sweetman leads the squad with seven assists along with three goals. Sophomore Kyle Hayton is 9-4-1 in his 14 starts and ranks 13th nationally with a 1.91 goals against average and 14th with a .934 save percentage. Canton, New York native Greg Carvel is in his fourth year as the head coach of the Saints after taking over for longtime coach Joe Marsh.
SERIES HISTORYSt. Lawrence is Vermont's second-longest standing rival in men's hockey behind UNH as the former ECAC rivals meet for the 92nd time on Friday. Vermont is 22-14-2 all-time against the Saints at Gutterson Fieldhouse but just 18-28-1 at Appleton Arena in the North Country. The Catamounts swept the Saints last year in a home-and-home with a 2-1 victory at Gutterson followed by a 2-0 shutout at Appleton. UVM has won five straight over SLU by the combined score of 18-6 and has taken seven of the last nine matchups overall in the series.
