FINAL SCORE: Georgetown 18, Vermont 10 | Box Score
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Reilly O'Connor and Peter Conley combined to score nine goals to propel Georgetown past Vermont, 18-10, in Tuesday afternoon's non-conference men's lacrosse game at Multi-Sport Field. With the victory, Georgetown improved to 4-2 on the year, while Vermont fell to 2-5 overall.
O'Connor led all scorers with seven points on four goals and three helpers, while Conley had a game-high five goals in the contest. Stephen Quinzi added two goals and one assist to help pace the Hoyas.
Cam Milligan tallied a career-high five assists, including four in the third period, and also added one goal to lead UVM with six points.
Ian MacKay notched a team-high four goals, and five other Catamounts tallied a goal apiece.
Nick Marrocco stopped 13 shots to earn the win for Georgetown. His counterpart,
Jon Kaplan, made a career-high 21 saves in his fourth consecutive start in net for Vermont.
Georgetown jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the contest before Barlow got the Catamounts on the board at the 7:11 mark off a feed from
Matt Gudas, which pulled Vermont back within two scores.
The Hoyas tallied the final two goals of the first period, including O'Connor's second goal of the game and Quinzi's tally with just five seconds left, to extend their lead to 5-1 heading into the second.
Vermont closed the gap to three scores after tallying two of the opening three goals of the second quarter. MacKay notched both tallies for the Catamounts, with Milligan and
Michael Clarke registering assists.
With Georgetown leading 6-3 midway through the period, the Hoyas were able to score the final three goals of the quarter to widen their lead to 9-3 heading into the break. O'Connor picked up three points and Conley netted two goals to lead the Hoyas in the frame.
Following a Conley goal to open the third period, Vermont rattled off five straight scores to cut its deficit to 10-8 with 4:37 remaining in the stanza. MacKay led the Catamount charge with two tallies, and freshman defenseman
James Leary registered the first goal of his career during the run.
Charles McCormick ended UVM's streak with a goal at the 3:47 mark, but Vermont responded with two of the final three scores of the period to cut Georgetown's lead to 12-10 with just one quarter remaining.
Georgetown controlled play in the final period, outscoring Vermont 6-0 behind four combined points from Conley and O'Connor, as the Hoyas went on for the 18-10 victory.
Vermont stays on the road for a contest at Sacred Heart on Saturday, March 14 at 3 p.m.
