BURLINGTON, Vt. – Junior goalie
Patrick Buono has been named the first recipient of former Catamount John Scotnicki's honored #30 jersey, as announced today by head coach
Ryan Curtis.
"It is my pleasure to announce that
Patrick Buono will be wearing John's #30 jersey for the remainder of the season. Patrick's unwavering support of his teammates, pride in the program and selfless contributions made him an easy choice to be the first recipient of the #30. Patrick is the consummate teammate who's always quick to offer help or a word of encouragement," commented Curtis.
Scotnicki's #30 jersey became the first honored uniform in program history during a ceremony at Alumni Weekend last season. John, or "Scotch" as he was known to many, was a mainstay on defense during his playing days with the Catamounts and later served as a Graduate Assistant Coach with the program from 1990-91. After a courageous battle with cancer, he passed away in June of 2013. In recognition of his influence and impact on the men's lacrosse program, Scotnicki's #30 was declared an honored jersey, awarded each season to the student-athlete on the men's lacrosse team who best displays exceptional pride in the program, a selfless approach as a teammate, and untiring effort, qualities which Scotnicki exhibited every day of his life.
Buono has exemplified the same qualities that Scotnicki displayed throughout his time at UVM and entire life. Buono's selflessness, support to teammates and peers, and pride in the program have made him very worthy of carrying on the tremendous legacy that Scotnicki carved out.
