WORCESTER, Mass. – Six years removed from an outstanding career for the Vermont men's basketball program, Mike Trimboli '09 collected another honor over the weekend as he was inducted into the New England Basketball Hall of Fame. The induction ceremony took place on August 8 at the DCU Center in Worcester, the venue that saw Vermont knock off Syracuse in the 2005 NCAA Tournament.
Trimboli entered the Hall of Fame as a Ronald S. Perry inductee, which recognizes individuals who have achieved distinction in two or more induction criteria categories (i.e., high school player, college player).
The Norwalk, Conn., native starred at Trinity Catholic High School prior to a post-grad year at St. Luke's School in New Canaan, Conn. He led St. Luke's in scoring at 28 points per game and in assists dishing out six per contest before committing to UVM.
Trimboli became one of the most decorated players to wear the Green and Gold. He was named to an all-conference team in each of his four seasons in Burlington, graduated as the all-time leader in assists (624) and as one of only four players to ever eclipse the 2,000-point plateau at UVM. He finished his career with back-to-back America East All-Conference First Team selections, a spot on the United States Basketball Writers Association All-District I Team in 2009 and with 2,008 career points, which still ranks fourth all-time.
