VERMONT MEN'S SOCCER WEEKLY NOTEBOOKThe Vermont Catamounts host the 25th edition of its own tournament this weekend in the team's home opener. The tournament has gone by several names over the years, but this season it has been renamed the Peter Baldwin Memorial Classic and is presented by Morgan Stanley and The Windjammer. Baldwin is a former standout for the Catamounts and member of the Class of 1968 who passed away. The Vermont men's soccer program is honoring Baldwin and his family by renaming the tournament.

The 2015 tournament field includes UNC Asheville, New Hampshire and Central Connecticut State University.

GAMEDAY PROMOTIONSFriday - stop by the Marketing and Promotions table at the entrance to Virtue Field to enter a raffle to win season tickets for the 2015 men's soccer season.
Saturday – the first 200 fans to the UVM game will receive a free team poster courtesy of the UPS Store. The players will be available for autographs following the game.
THE CATAMOUNTSVermont stands at 1-3 on the season. UVM won the season opener at Sacred Heart, 1-0, but has dropped three straight games. The Catamounts fell 1-0 to No. 21 Oregon State and dropped a 3-2 decision at Portland in two games at the Nike Portland Invitational in Oregon this past weekend.

ABOUT CENTRAL CONNETICUT The Blue Devils are 1-1 entering the tournament. CCSU dropped a 1-0 decision at Stony Brook and bounced back with a 5-1 victory over UMass. Central Connecticut was picked to finish fifth in the Northeast Conference Preseason Poll. Freddy Metellus has tallied four points on two goals and Ben Knight has recorded four points on one goal and two assists to lead the Blue Devils in scoring. Nick Velleca and Josef Abele have split time in net. Velleca earned the win over UMass.

ABOUT UNC ASHEVILLEThe Bulldogs are 2-1 overall and suffered their first loss of the season on Tuesday, a 5-0 setback at Wake Forest. UNC Asheville, which is playing six of its first seven games on the road in 2015, has scored all four of their goals in the second half this season and has been out scored 5-0 in the first 45 minutes of games this year. A member of the Big South Conference, Asheville was picked to finish ninth in the 10-team league. Zach Jones leads the team in scoring with four points on a pair of goals. Ben Chapel has recorded three points (1 gl, 1 ast) and Andrew Lawrence has the other tally for the Bulldogs. Zak Davis has started all three games for Asheville and picked up 17 saves. Head coach Mathes Mennell is in his first season at UNC Asheville. He has added 12 newcomers, seven freshman and five transfers, to the squad for the 2015 campaign.

ABOUT NEW HAMPSHIREThe Wildcats are 2-0-1 under first-year head coach Marc Hubbard. Hubbard came to UNH following seven seasons at Division II powerhouse Southern New Hampshire University. He guided the Penmen to the DII National Championship in 2013. UNH was picked to finish sixth in the America East Preseason Poll. The Wildcats have scored eight goals by eight different players in three games thus far. Ryan Carpenter has played every minute in net for the Wildcats and has made four stops.
