FINAL SCORE: Northeastern 155, Vermont 145BURLINGTON, Vt. – The Vermont women's swimming & diving team fell to the Northeastern Huskies by a narrow 155-145 final on Monday during Senior Day at Forbush Natatorium.
Prior to the meet, UVM honored the five members of its senior class:
Diane Brown,
Gabrielle Logozzo,
Elena Melloni,
Maggie Preston, and
Christa Weaver. The class has combined to win 29 meets during its four years at Vermont.

Weaver claimed the 50-yard freestyle in a photo finish as the senior registered a time of 24.24 seconds. Northeastern's Carly Schnabel narrowly won the 100 free in 52.80 with Weaver placing second overall in 52.99.

The Huskies set a pool record in the 200 IM with a time of 1:45.46 to begin the competition. NU's Sara Touchette-McGowan finished the 100 butterfly in 55.47 seconds for another pool mark, while
Courtney Gray took second for Vermont in 59.12.

Madeline Blumenfeld captured the 1000 freestyle by more than six seconds in 10:42.40.
Kira Hancock (59.21) and
Dani Rocheleau (59.60) were 2-3 in the 100 backstroke.

Kelly Lennon (1:55.55) and
Sarah Mantz (1:55.97) were second and third in the 200 free, while Lennon added a second-place finish in the 500 free (5:09.48).

Shannon Cowley had a strong performance in three individual events. The sophomore won the 200-yard breaststroke (2:27.60) by five seconds and the 200-yard IM (2:12.30), and was second in the 100 breast in 1:06.67.

Preston continued her standout senior season by sweeping both diving events for the Catamounts, collecting 253.12 points in the 3-meter event and 252.74 in the 1-meter.

UVM closed the meet by winning the 200 free relay as Mantz, Hancock, Gray, and Weaver posted a time of 1:37.54.

Vermont falls to 5-3 overall and suffers its first home loss of the season in four meets. The Catamounts are back in action this weekend as they travel to Rhode Island for a 12 p.m. meet against the Rams on Saturday (Jan. 23) at the Tootell Aquatics Center.
