"I was disappointed in our first period," said head coach
Jim Plumer. "We simply weren't ready to compete. We need to play 60 minutes every game."
After Jenna Rheault and Meghara McManus gave UNH a 2-0 lead early on, Leveillee brought Vermont back within one at the 8:34 mark of the first period. She won a right circle faceoff which was then followed by a shot from
Kourtney Menches. Goalie Kyra Smith gloved down the puck, but Leveillee collected the rebound and poked the puck between Smith's pads.
The Wildcats extended the lead back to two while on the advantage at 14:42. Curtis skated in from the left point and sent a bouncing puck towards Amy Schlagel, who lifted a shot just over the glove of
Melissa Black.
UNH used a tic-tac-toe sequence to add another in the final minute of the first period. Marie-Jo Pelletier took a pass at the center point from Curtis, then dished to the right circle and Julia Fedeski. The latter went top right, moving the score to 4-1 in favor of New Hampshire.
Vermont narrowed the deficit back to two at the 2:02 mark of the second.
Ève-Audrey Picard launched a sharp-angle shot which was turned aside by Smith, but Andreakos picked up the rebound and jammed the puck through the five hole.
UVM now heads up Interstate 95 for a Sunday matinee with Maine, scheduled for 2 p.m. at Alfond Arena in Orono.
