CatamounTV Highlights
SeniorÂ
Mario Puskarich and freshmanÂ
Ross Colton each scored a pair of goals on Tuesday night as Vermont registered its 50th all-time win over former ECAC rival Dartmouth with a 5-2 victory at Gutterson Fieldhouse. UVM improved to 6-3-1 (2-2-0 HEA) with its second straight win and moved to 7-1-1 in its last nine games against the Big Green. 10 different Catamounts registered at least one point in the non-conference victory.Â
Vermont returned to Burlington after a four-game road swing and stormed out to a 4-0 lead just 12 minutes into the opening period. The Catamounts were backed by freshman
Stefanos Lekkas, who stopped 32 of the 34 shots he faced to push his record to 5-1-1. Colton notched his first career multi-goal and multi-point games, added an assist, and posted a career-high seven shots on goal.
SCOUTING MAINE
Maine began the season 3-0-0 but is 1-6-2 in its last nine games and split a home-and-home with UMass Lowell last weekend. Senior Blaine Byron leads the team with 12 points on six goals and six assists, while fellow senior Cam Brown has tallied a team-best nine assists and rookie Mitchell Fossier has netted six goals. Sophomore goalie Rob McGovern has started 10 games with a 4-4-2 record, 2.71 goals against average and .921 save percentage.
The Black Bears are operating at 8.7% on the power play and 82.5% on the penalty kill this season. Red Gendron is in his fourth year as the head coach of the Black Bears. He guided BFA St. Albans to four Vermont high school state championships in the 1980's. Last year, Maine finished 8-24-6 overall and 5-15-2 in Hockey East, falling to Northeastern in a pair of overtime games in the opening round of the playoffs.
SERIES HISTORY
Friday marks the 54th meeting of the all-time series, which UVM leads by a narrow 25-24-4 margin. The Catamounts were swept in Orono last November after going 9-1-0 in their previous 10 games against the Black Bears, which included a series-high eight-game winning streak. UVM defeated Maine in a three-game Hockey East First Round series in 2014-15, winning Game 3 by a 3-2 final in overtime. The Game 2 loss was Vemont's first defeat to Maine in Burlington since Dec. 3, 2011 to snap a six-game home win streak.  Â
