WAKEFIELD, Mass. – University of Vermont sophomore forward
Alyssa Gorecki has been named the Hockey East Warrior Player of the Week for the period ending December 4. The league office made the announcement on Monday.
Gorecki, a native of Monee, Illinois, had a role in each of the Catamounts' game-winning goals this past weekend en route to a road sweep of No. 10 Northeastern. On Saturday, she lit the lamp 1:11 into overtime to secure a 2-1, come from behind win over the Huskies. Gorecki then followed up on Sunday with an assist on
Ève-Audrey Picard's OT tally as the Catamounts left Matthews Arena with a 3-2 decision in hand.
With the weekend's results, Vermont won the regular season series over Northeastern by a 2-0-1 margin, accomplishing the feat for the first time in program history. Sunday's victory also gave UVM its third ranked win of the season, an additional first.
The sweep was enough to capture a vote for the Catamounts in this week's USCHO Division I Women's Poll, doing so for the first time since the week of Nov. 3, 2014.
UVM is back at Gutterson Fieldhouse on Saturday (Dec. 10) to host twin state rival Dartmouth at 2 p.m.
