BURLINGTON, Vt. – Former Vermont women's soccer player Alexa DeMaio '14 has signed a professional contract to play overseas. DeMaio joined the Gamlakarleby Booklubb (GBK) club based in Kokkola, Finland.

DeMaio will play for the club during the season, which runs from March to November. The team's first league match is scheduled for April 23.
 
GBK competes in the Naisten Ykkonen league, which is the second highest division in the Finnish Pro League.
 
DeMaio was a three-time captain for the Catamounts and earned America East All-Conference Second Team honors in 2011 as a sophomore. She played in 68 games, ranking 10th among UVM's all-time leaders in games played, and started 55 straight over the final three years of her career.
 
She helped the Catamounts reach the America East Playoffs three straight years from 2011 to 2013, including a semifinal appearance in 2012.
