BURLINGTON, Vt. – The Vermont Catamounts held Binghamton scoreless in the third quarter and scored nine straight goals to erase a 5-0 deficit and post a 17-9 victory in the men's lacrosse regular season finale at Virtue Field on Saturday evening.

Vermont moves to 8-7 overall, the most wins since 2006, and finishes conference play with a 4-2 record. The Catamounts have earned the No. 3 seed in the America East Tournament and will face No. 2 Stony Brook on Thursday (May 5) at 4:30 p.m. at Tom & Mary Casey Stadium on the campus of the University at Albany. The Great Danes are the top seed and will host the 2016 America East Tournament. Albany will play No. 4 Hartford at 7 p.m. in the second semifinal matchup.

James Barlow netted hat tricks to pace the Vermont offense, which ranks 14th in the country at 11.93 goals per game. Four different Catamounts netted multiple goals and 11 players scored in the contest.

The Bearcats held Vermont scoreless in the first quarter to jump out to a 4-0 lead and added the first goal of the second period to extend their advantage to five.

Barlow started the UVM rally, getting the Catamounts on the board at 10:24 of the second quarter.
Cam Milligan, Stafford and
Michael Clarke added three more goals to slice the lead to one, 5-4, with 4:36 remaining in the second. Binghamton answered with back-to-back goals to push its lead back to three.

With 17 seconds left in the second quarter,
Jack Knight's ninth goal of the year ignited a flurry of UVM scoring that extended through the third quarter and five minutes into the final stanza.

Vermont out scored Binghamton 8-4 in the fourth and capped off the game with Elliot Mitchell's first career goal with five seconds left.

Jon Kaplan, who picked up his third America East Defensive Player of the Week honor on Monday, made 13 stops in the Vermont net to pick up the win. Tanner Cosens was credited with 11 stops for Binghamton.
