BOSTON – The previously undefeated Catamounts suffered their first defeat of the season on Saturday afternoon, falling to the Northeastern Huskies by a final score of 199-101 at Barletta Natatorium. UVM falls to 5-1 (3-0 AE) heading into its final meet before conference championships.

Kelly Lennon finished less than a half second behind winner Megan Clark in the 200 free with a time of 1:53.38, while
Sarah Mantz took third overall in 1:55.58. Mantz also finished second in the 50 free with a time of 24.95 seconds, less than two tenths behind the race winner, and was a close second in the 100 free in 52.88 as
Kira Hancock placed third (54.44). Lennon was a second-place finisher in the 500 free with a time of 5:06.71.

Hancock was just six tenths of a second out of first place in the 100 backstroke in 59.96, while
Morgan Montgomery (1:01.56) and
Abby Holmquist (1:01.58) were separated by two hundredths in third and fourth. Montgomery later took second overall in the 200 back with a time of 2:11.41.

Shannon Cowley (1:07.66) and
Haley Gula (1:09.11) registered second and third respectively in the 100 breast. Gula had the edge in the 200 breast as she placed second (2:28.78) over Cowley in third (2:29.66).

Alexy Novelli finished second in the 400 IM with a mark of 4:44.01 and also took fourth (2:11.49) in the 200 fly behind
Julia DeGregorio in third (2:10.54). DeGregorio also earned third in the 100 fly with a time of 59.97 with
Courtney Gray following in fourth (1:00.02).

Freshman
Sophia Smith earned third in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 10:48.06.

UVM closed the competition by winning the 400 free relay in convincing fashion with a time of 3:33.75 from the team of Mantz, Lennon,
Sierra Sexton, and Hancock.

Vermont returns home for Senior Day next Saturday (Jan. 21) against Rhode Island at 12 p.m. at Forbush Natatorium in the final meet before the America East Championships. Prior to the meet, the Catamounts will honor their senior class ofÂ
