DURHAM, N.H. – The Vermont swimming & diving team suffered its first loss of the season on Saturday at Swasey Pool, dropping a 169-131 final against conference rival UNH. The Catamounts move to 1-1 (1-1 AE) for the year.

Shannon Cowley won a pair of events on Saturday, clinching both the 100 (1:05.91) and 200 (2:25.73) breaststroke for the Catamounts.
Morgan Montgomery was also an individual champion, claiming the 200 backstroke by a half second as she hit the wall in 2:05.04 with
Dani Rocheleau in fourth (2:09.86).

After winning a pair of events last weekend against Binghamton,
Kelly Lennon posted second-place finishes in the 200 (1:54.03) and 500 (5:12.39) freestyle.
Kira Hancock took second in the 100 free in 53.08, while
Sophia Smith was second in the 1000 free (10:44.88).

Sierra Sexton was second in the 50 free behind UNH standout Liza Baykova in 24.58 seconds, while
Fiona Vashaw and
Vivian Nguyen tied for third as they both hit the wall in 25.05. Nguyen also earned second in the 100 butterfly with a time of 58.99, while
Alexy Novelli placed third in the 200 butterfly in 2:09.91.

Hancock (58.52) and
Jess Gorham (58.69) were second and third in the 100 back, and
Chandler Brandes finished fourth in the 200 IM with a time of 2:15.58.

UVM closed the swimming competition by winning the 400 medley relay in a time of 3:33.57 with the team of Sexton, Rocheleau, Hancock, and Lennon.

Freshman
Haley Tomlinson had Vermont's highest score in the 1-meter (217.13) and 3-meter (219.90) diving events for third place in both.
Vermont competes in two meets next weekend, beginning with the home opener against Stony Brook on Saturday (Oct. 21) at 12 p.m. Live video is available for free via CatamounTV.com. The Catamounts then hit the road to face UMass on Sunday (Oct. 22) for a 1 p.m. dual meet.Â
