The Catamounts played a tough defensive first half but the 18th-ranked Albany Great Danes used three goals in the second half to edge UVM 4-1 in the America East home opener last Sunday. Vermont used a penalty corner to its advantage in the 68th minute. On the corner,
Claudia Cotter passed to the top of the circle to
Jackie Gillen, who launched a shot towards the left side of the cage but her attempt was stopped by Albany goalie Melissa Nealon. Warren gathered the rebound and chipped a backhand under the crossbar for her 10th goal of the season.

SCOUTING MAINE
The Black Bears have the top scoring offense in America East with 107 points on a league-leading 37 goals and 33 assists. Maine will try to rebound after a tough 1-0 loss to No. 18 Albany on Friday. The Black Bears have two of the conference's top scorers – Brianna Ricker and Samantha Wagg. The scoring duo are tied for sixth with seven goals apiece. Wagg ranks third overall in total points (21). Libby Riedl has dished out 10 assists on the year which tops the conference. Goalkeeper Emma Coachran sits second among America East Field Hockey East Division goalies, fourth overall, with a 1.45 goals-against average.
INSIDE THE SERIES
Vermont has been on the winning end of nine matches against Maine since the series began in 1979 in the Catamounts' first-ever home match. UVM will be looking to claim its first victory in Orono since Oct. 19, 2007. Kelly McClintock netted the game-winning goal with 22:10 remaining in the game and Kristen Heavens recorded two saves as the Catamounts punched earned a berth into the America East Tournament.

ESPELAND NAMED TO USWNT
Freshman goalkeeperÂ
Sierra Espeland has been named to the United States Women's National Team that will compete at the Women's Indoor Pan-American Cup. The seven-team tournament will take place in Georgetown, Guyana from Monday, Oct. 16 through Saturday, Oct. 21.

CLIMBING THE RECORD BOOK
At this juncture of the season multiple Catamounts are working their way up the program record book. In the cage,
Lena Benwood has totaled 423 career saves and moved into seventh place on UVM's career saves list. Offensively both
Lauren Tucker and
Landon Warren find themselves in a race in the career points category. Warren has tallied 55 points on 27 goals plus an assist, while Tucker has 47 points (16 goals, 15 assists). Warren can match Sara Mercanti '03 for ninth with two more points and Tucker is tied with JoAnn Rathbun '92 for 11th on the all-time list.

HENNI TIETZE JOINS CATAMOUNT STAFF

Kate Pfeifer announced during the preseason thatÂ
Henni Tietze has joined her program's staff as an assistant coach. Tietze comes to UVM after spending the 2016 season in the same capacity at Providence College of the BIG EAST. Tietze also enjoyed a four-year career at Providence (2011-14) at center-back, during which she amassed 22 goals and 15 assists. Her 59 total points rank 22nd all-time in program history.
