SCOUTING THE HUSKIES
Northeastern blew out Boston University 6-1 at home last Friday to extend its winning streak to four games but fell on the road 4-2 to UMass Lowell on Saturday to see the streak end. NU owns the nation's top scoring offense with 4.30 goals per game and the fifth-best power play nationally at 27.5%.
Junior Adam Gaudette leads the Huskies with 17 points and eight goals, while he and Dylan Sikura both rank top-5 nationally in scoring. Underclassmen Zach Solow and Jeremy Davies have each tallied 10 assists on the year to lead the squad. Veteran Ryan Ruck (4-1-0, 2.60 GAA, .910 SV%) and rookie Cayden Primeau (2-2-1, 2.35, .908) have each started five games in net.
NU alum Jim Madigan is in his seventh season as the NU head coach, and in 2016 he led the program to its first Hockey East Championship since 1998 with a 3-2 victory over UMass Lowell at TD Garden in Boston.Â
SERIES HISTORY
Friday marks the 63rd all-time meeting between Vermont and Northeastern in the series, which dates back to 1969. Vermont has a five-game unbeaten streak (3-0-2) against the Huskies and has lost just once in the last eight meetings (5-1-2). The last five contests have been decided by a total of three goals.
Vermont has won the last two games at Matthews Arena 3-2, while the schools have tied the last two matchups at Gutterson. UVM is 18-10-1 all-time at Matthews against the Huskies, which includes an active four-game winning streak in Boston.
